Tech billionaire Elon Musk has launched an extensive social media campaign criticizing President Donald Trump's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Over the past day, Musk has posted or reposted more than 35 messages on his X platform, flooding his feed with attacks on the Trump administration's decision regarding the controversial documents.
The controversy centers around the Trump administration's announcement last week that it would not release additional files related to Jeffrey Epstein, the wealthy financier and convicted sex offender who died by suicide in federal custody in 2019. This decision has angered many Trump supporters who expected the president to follow through on earlier promises to make the documents public. The administration's reversal has sparked widespread criticism from various quarters, with Musk emerging as one of the most vocal critics.

Musk's current posting spree represents a return to a topic he previously addressed but then backed away from. Just weeks ago, he posted but later deleted a claim that Trump's name appeared in the Epstein files, suggesting this was the reason for withholding additional documents. At the time, Musk acknowledged that his post "went too far," but his recent activity suggests he has renewed his willingness to directly challenge the president on this issue.
Musk has been particularly harsh in his characterization of the administration's actions, calling them "a cover up (obviously)" in one post and claiming that "so many powerful people want that list suppressed" in another. When Trump referred to the matter as the "Epstein Hoax," Musk responded mockingly, writing, "Wow, amazing that Epstein 'killed himself' and Ghislaine is in federal prison for a hoax," referencing Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in facilitating Epstein's abuse of underage girls.
Musk has also employed his AI chatbot Grok, which recently secured a $200 million deal with the Trump administration, to address the Epstein files issue. In one exchange, he asked Grok whether the government currently knows the names and ages of all those who traveled on Epstein's private aircraft. The AI responded affirmatively, stating that the Department of Justice and Federal Aviation Administration hold extensive passenger manifests and flight logs from Epstein's jets.
The billionaire has criticized Trump's general approach to handling controversies, listing what he sees as the president's standard playbook: "1. Admit nothing; 2. Deny everything; 3. Make counterclaims" before adding, "But it won't work this time." Musk also questioned the whereabouts of promised additional document releases, posting a photo of binders labeled "Epstein files: Phase 1" that were distributed to MAGA influencers at the White House in February and asking, "Where is 'Phase 2'?"
Trump has not remained silent in the face of Musk's attacks. Earlier this month, responding to criticism from the tech billionaire, Trump posted on his own social media platform, "I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails,' essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks."
